I have been researching and looking for a LCD or DLP rear projection TV for the last year. The CNET site probably has the best inforrmation and review of all the TV's that are out there. I think I probably went to that site 40-50 times. From the beginning I was intrigued by the LCoS rear projection offered by Phillips. They use a Liquid Crystal on Silicon type of chip instead of a standard LCD or DLP type chip. So I waited and waited for a Phillips LCoS to arrive at a dealer near me. It finally came to Comp USA of all places. I did not even know they sold TV's. Well I went there and was impressed by the variety of TV's that they had. This Phillips Cineos was right next to a standard LCD and a plasma TV as well. Its picture was very close to the plasma and superior in sharpness to the LCD.
Since I have purchased it I am still thrilled especially with HD programming. The picture is so sharp at times it appears 3 dimensional. DVD are awsome also especially using the DVI input. The most dissappointing thing has to do with my cable service. I upgraded to digital cable, but it still includes the 70 standard analog channels. The picture on the analog channels is grainy, with poor color and bright light interpretation, whereas the digital and HD channels are perfect. If the cable company would just go all digital which hopefully is down the road I would have very little complaint.
As for the TV itself it is light, only about 100 pounds, only about 14 inches deep and looks sharp. There are no rainbows thatt I did notice and are talked about with DLP TV's. Sometime with very white or very black scenes the contrast is difficult to maintain, and the dark or white areas seem cartoonish in nature, but this is usually brief. I am sure no one in my family notices but me. Unfortunately I have heard that Phillips will no longer be making the LCoS sets, I am not sure why, but CNET shows that Mitsubishi makes an 83 inch (wow!!!) LCoS so go check it out before you buy a standard LCD or DLP.
